Clostridium difficile (C diff) Surpasses MRSA as Bigger Threat to Hospitals
In a study (presented March 20, 2010 at the International Conference on Healthcare-Associated Infections in Atlanta) of 28 hospitals in the southeast, C.difficile was 25% more common than MRSA. According to the CDC, more than 28,000 people die of C diff, many as a result of stays in hospitals and nursing homes. And, a study recently conducted in Ohio showed that following strict guidelines on hand washing, contact isolation and cleaning caused a significant decrease in new cases.
